The assumption behind child-placement is that the safety and living conditions of a child improve. These cases demonstrate that this assumption is often invalid.

Adoptions before 1997, didn't automatically lead to naturalization. As result, people adopted from outside the outside US that ran into problems with the justice system face deportation to their country of birth.

Although the adoptive family is called the "forever family" by the adoption industry, adoptions can end in disruption. These cases demonstrate that the "forever family" is sometimes only temporary
father's rights violation case
Adoption requires the consent of both biological parents. These cases demonstrate that the rights of fathers in adoption cases are being violated.
wrongful medication case
Children in foster care can have serious mental health issues. Too often these children are given large doses of psychotropic medications, just to keep them quiet.
wrongful removal case
The removal of children from their family's should always be a last resort. These cases demonstrate that Child Protective Services sometimes remove children for all the wrong reasons

Emily adopted from China in 1996 by multimillionaires John and Christine Svenningsen was disrupted in 2004 after because she 'was a difficult child and unable to bond with the family'.
Father John had died of cancer in 1997.
Eric adopted from China around 1997 by then widow Christine was disrupted shortly after 'because she couldn't handle 7 children'.
Svenningsens had 5 bio children, the last who was born shortly after Emily was adopted.

In December 2003, Christine placed Emily at the Devereux Glenholme School based upon a diagnosis of reactive attachment disorder. The staff at Devereux did not concur with that diagnosis.

Emily was adopted again in 2006 by teachers at Devereux Glenholme School. Eric was adopted again by a NJ family shortly after disruption.

In 1997, Kim Sophoan, a widow, visited Phnom Penh with her 2 daughters Srey Lieu and Srey Mon, then aged 9 and 12. Her 'friend' Chhim Naly convinced her to leave the two girls with her so that they could go to school. Normally, Sophoan had to leave her children alone while she worked. No paperwork was signed. Ten days later, Kim Sophoan returned to Phnom Penh and learned her daughters had been adopted by a US family. Their names had been changed on the Cambodian paperwork.

Flor de María Soto Hernández, a year and a half old, was stolen in Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico, moved to Guatemala and given as a referral to a Canadian couple. The child was located and the adoption proceedings stopped after the DNA test failed

Parents divorced after 30 year marriage and both alleged the other parent was guilty of child abuse. Initially Dan was granted custody of the minor children, he lost it after the children were neglected.

Domico's death lead to an investigation into the use of psychotropic drugs is the Washington foster care system, lead by the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

Christopher Vietri was the biological father of Sam. He was told the baby was still born, shortly after the mother had placed the child for adoption. Vietri sought custody of the boy. A settlement was eventually reached where Vietri was allowed four supervised visits per year. He was required to pay $200 a month in child support.
