A boy adopted from foster care by Edward and Lori Drones had all but $15 of his $830,000 trust fund spent by his adoptive parents in the 12 months after they gained control of the funds. They adopted the previously abused boy at age 11 and successfully sued the State of Alaska on his behalf a few years later.

News videos report 1 of the other 5 children in the home was adopted, and that the Joneses were a homeschooling church-going family. Both parents were found guilty of malice murder and sentenced to life in prison.

The adoptive parents, Daniel and Merily Pompa, were also trustees to a $1,000,000 trust fund for the children. from 2004 to 2009, the money was spent on a condo, flooring, chandeliers, and  other items including $529 brass monkey shaped toilet paper holder.
