abuse case
The assumption behind child-placement is that the safety and living conditions of a child improve. These cases demonstrate that this assumption is often invalid.
child trafficking case
There is often a fine line between adoption and child trafficking. In many cases this line is being crossed.

Adoptions before 1997, didn't automatically lead to naturalization. As result, people adopted from outside the outside US that ran into problems with the justice system face deportation to their country of birth.

Although the adoptive family is called the "forever family" by the adoption industry, adoptions can end in disruption. These cases demonstrate that the "forever family" is sometimes only temporary
father's rights violation case
Adoption requires the consent of both biological parents. These cases demonstrate that the rights of fathers in adoption cases are being violated.
wrongful medication case
Children in foster care can have serious mental health issues. Too often these children are given large doses of psychotropic medications, just to keep them quiet.
wrongful removal case
The removal of children from their family's should always be a last resort. These cases demonstrate that Child Protective Services sometimes remove children for all the wrong reasons

Five children adopted by Tinitale and April Makalea were physically abused and deprived of necessities by their adoptive father. He also sexually abused one of the girls. He pleaded guilty to two of the charges in 2017 and was sentenced 45 days in jail and five years of probation. April Makalea was charged with witness tampering, as police said she knew of the abuse but did not report it and told the girl not to report it.

11-year-old boy, adopted from Ukraine in 2013, by Christine Evelyn Baughman, was allegedly physically abused by his adoptive mother.

A 19-year-old boy, one of 13 children adopted by Timothy and Karen Sue Tolin, was found locked in a caged bed covered in urine and feces.

Court records indicate that the Department of Human Services has a history of involvement with the Tolin family.

In 2010, the Huron County Intermediate School District and Ubly Community Schools petitioned Huron County Circuit Court Family Division regarding a charge the Tolins educationally abused and neglected seven minor children. A hearing was canceled after the Home School Legal Defense Association got involved.

One of the children adopted by the Tolins was placed with Tom and Debra Schmitz.

Karen Sue Tolin on her now defunct website admits to being a long time sufferer of Anxiety and Depression.

16-year-old girl adopted by Richard and Rana Cooper was systematically abused by her adoptive mother. Rana Cooper is accused of forcing the girl to eat used cat litter, attempting to gouge the girl’s eyes out and trying to sew her mouth shut. Allegedly she also forced the girl to run her finger along the rim of the toilet and eat what was on her finger.

5-year-old boy with Down syndrome, adopted by Mark and Ruthann Gneiser, was allegedly beaten by his adoptive mother so badly that he defecated in his pants. She then made the boy sit in scalding hot bath water.

Two girls, age 11 and 13, and an adult male, adopted by David and Rejeana Moss, were being kept locked away and were physically abused by their adoptive parents. The two girls alleged sexual abuse by David Moss as well.

15-year-old girl, adopted by Douglas and Kim Sherman was forced to live in a shed at the rear of the house. She was also beaten regularly.

A nine-year-old girl, a seven-year-old boy and a six-year-old boy adopted by Charles and Suzan Sealock were physically abused by their adoptive parents. The seven-year-old boy was being locked in his room.

The Sealocks had a child of their own who showed no sign of abuse.

Seven children adopted by Owen Miller and his wife (name unknown) were allegedly routinely locked in attics and basements and outdoors, left without food for days. Moreover Owen Miller is accused of sexually abusing one of his adopted daughters.

The alleged crimes took place in Missouri, a state the Millers left when they moved to Alaska.
