Johannesburg Parent and Child Counseling Centre (JCPCC) | Founded | Impilo Place of Safety |
The Johannesburg Parent and Child Counseling Centre (JCPCC) was established in 1944 as the Johannesburg Child Guidance Clinic. Its aim was to provide counseling and guidance for parents and children with emotional and developmental problems.
Over the past 59 years, JPCCC's basic orientation has remained the same, but the services have expanded to include not only children and their families, but also the systems, which impact on them and their environment. In this way the services focus on prevention and family preservation.
In line with modern Child and Family Care Philosophy, JPCCC believe the strengthening and preservation of family life is the basis of a healthy society. Early detection of and intervention into difficulties experienced by children and their families is vital to address family dysfunction. It is well known that prevention is essential in order to alleviate the need for remediation.
