Adoptive father indicted
An Akron father of two adopted children from Russia was indicted yesterday on charges that he injured both children. Gerald B. Hyre, 32, was charged with felonious assault and child endangering in connection with a spinal injury that has paralyzed his 26-month-old daughter, Kelsey. Hyre told police he accidentally dropped the girl on Sept. 26, but the Summit County prosecutor's office said her injury was caused by a violent act. Investigators then learned that Hyre's 30-month-old son, Nathan, had suffered a broken foot while with his father, prosecutors said. The mother was not home during either incident.
