More Bulgarian children are being adopted abroad.
This was announced by the Justice Ministry regarding allegations of candidate-adopters from abroad and mediator agencies that after Bulgaria's accession to the EU the number of international adoptions has decreased.
They add that after December 1 2007 the Justice Ministry has entirely changed its policy in the field of international adoptions and it is exerting all legal and technical efforts in finding a suitable adopter and family care of all enlisted children.
By the end of 2008, 372 proposals have been made for 415 children. Compared to the data for 2007 - 91 proposals for 95 children - it is indicative enough for the changed policy and care for abandoned children, the Ministry claims.
In 2008 169 total agreements for the adoption of 184 children have been processed by the Justice Ministry.
For the same period correspondences of 161 candidate-adopters for 175 children have been processed, the Justice Ministry adds.
