Bucharest - PD leader Traian Basescu claims that the EC Chairman Romano
Prodi, along with numerous other MEPs and European and American
officials, are among the lobbyists for approving international adoptions
through Memoranda signed with PM Nastase. On Sunday Basescu presented
the appendices of three of the Memoranda. According to the documents,
the Memoranda state that "the good standing of adopting families is
proven by personal intervention of Romanian and foreign officials."
Along with Prodi, can be found names of well known MEPs and European
Commissioners (European Commissioner for Human Rights Gil Robles and the
Italian Deputy in the European Parliament Antonio di Pietro being the
recurrent names in the list), Leonzio Boreo - Chairman of the Judicial
Commission of the Italian Senate, French MEP Jacques Santer, Embassies
of states such as France, Switzerland, Israel, the Consul General of the
Hellenic Republic Embassy, Romania's Ambassador to Paris Oliviu Gherman,
representatives of institutions such as the Israeli Ministry of Labour
and Social Provisions. The same lists also include many American
officials and Parliamentarians.
