Kidnapping Suspect's Boyfriend Talks About Arrest
The boyfriend of the woman accused of attacking a new mother in Nashville and stealing her newborn son says he's just as shocked as anyone else about the incident.
Martin Rodriguez Guerrero says he's been dating Tammy Silas for about two years. He tells a Nashville T-V station that he and Silas have been buying baby supplies for the last couple of weeks. Guerrero says Silas told him she was adopting a baby legally from Texas. He says he was under the impression Silas had gone to Dallas and El Paso to talk with an adoption agency and submit final paper work. He says he picked Silas up at the airport last week, with the baby, unaware of what had happened in Nashville. Guerrero says he still had no idea that his girlfriend may have been involved with the incident in Nashville until police arrived at his home in Ardmore Friday night.
Silas has been arrested and now faces federal kidnapping charges. Police believe she followed Maria Gurrola Tuesday morning while she ran errands just a day after leaving the hospital with newborn Yair Carillo.
Police say Silas posed as an immigration agent to get inside the home. Once inside, police say she stabbed Gurrola nine times. Gurrola suffered a collapsed lung, but survived and is recovering.
Guerrero hasn't been charged in connection with the case.
