International adoptions can cost from $15,000 to more than $35,000, depending on the country of origin. Children’s House International, a Washington-based international adoption agency that operates an office in Kissimmee, estimates the following costs for adopting a child from Ethiopia.

Application fee: $600

Agency fee: $7,000 (goes toward operational costs of the agency)

Ethiopia program fee: $8,200 (includes humanitarian aid, orphanage donations, administrative costs, transportation, utilities, food/formula, clothing, supplies, diapers and other miscellaneous items)

Home study estimate: $1,000 to $3,000

Post-placement report estimate: $300 to $2,000

Adoption education internet courses: $120 to $150

CIS filing fee: $670

Fingerprint charge (2): $160

Passports (2): $97

Ethiopia visas (2): $130

Document authentication: $250

Pre-travel expenses: $8,000 (includes round-trip airfare for two adults and one child’s one-way airfare)
