A dentist is accused of sexually molesting a 14-year-old girl he and his wife kept locked in a cage in their Indiana home.
Alan Friz, 57, faces a total of 26 counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, neglect and criminal confinement, while his wife Aimee Friz, 36, has been charged with 22 counts of neglect and criminal confinement.
The couple was arrested after the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department received reports of an unruly child at their home in Huntingburg on Wednesday, according to court documents cited by the Dubois County Free Press.
They directed responding deputies to the garage, where the teenage girl said a scuffle broke out after her grandfather took her ball and wouldn’t give it back.
When the Division of Family and Children conducted an interview with the 14-year-old later that day, she alleged Alan Friz touched her breasts on several occasions in the past year.
She also told investigators she was forced to sleep in a cage every night since September, and was deprived food and water, WFIE reported.
After deputies were granted a search warrant, they found a wooden cage measuring 4 feet by 8 feet inside the closet of a bedroom in the home.
The cage, which was labeled with the girl’s name and fastened with a padlock and chain, contained a mattress and a pan in lieu of a toilet.
Alan Friz, who was promptly arrested, admitted to locking the girl up and told investigators he was trying to protect the other family members after she allegedly made threats against them.
Aimee Friz, who is pregnant, reportedly fled to St. Louis, Mo. with her other children, before she was arrested outside the courthouse where Alan Friz was scheduled to appear on Thursday.
A judge set bond at $25,000 for Alan Friz, and $10,000 for Aimee Friz after they were arraigned on Monday.
