SALISBURY, N.C. — Two Salisbury parents are facing additional charges for the neglect of their adopted son, according to the Salisbury Police Department.
In addition to felony child abuse charges filed last month, Reed Karriker, 42, and Georgianna Karriker, 42, were each charged on Wednesday with attempted murder and an additional count of felony child abuse.
An investigation began into the parents after their adopted son was brought unresponsive to a Novant Hospital on Jan. 21, police said.
The child showed possible signs of neglect and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment, police said. After a review of the medial information, Salisbury police arrested Reed and Georgianna and charged each with felony child abuse.
On Thursday, police announced the additional charges after a search of the couple’s home on Maupin Avenue.
Both suspects were given a $300,000 bond and were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center.
