J K Mittal takes over as chairman of Central Adoption Resource Agency
New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI) Newly appointed Chairman of the Central Adoption Resource Agency J K Mittal has ordered preparation of a database of abandoned children who could be adopted within the country and abroad and review of the guidelines to ensure safety of children going for inter-country adoption.
Mr Mittal, who is an eminent social worker, was appointed the Chairman of CARA, which is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, working as central Authority in the matters of inter-country adoption of children.
Immediately after taking over as Chairman, Mr Mittal reviewed the issues regarding protection and welfare of children in adoption matters in a meeting with the officials. He said in view of some unfortunate incidents in recent past, protection and welfare of children has become very important.
Mr Mittal asked the officials to prepare a database of abandoned children, who could be adopted in the country or abroad by eligible families for better upbringing. He also asked the officials to review the guidelines for inter-country adoption to ensure safety measures and well being of the children.
The chairman directed the officials to draw training programmes for sensitising NGOs, government officials, medical professionals, judicial and police officers on adoption.
Mr Mittal has been associated with various social organisations working in the field of child development and child welfare. He has also decided to hold fortnightly monitoring of the working of Child Social Welfare Agencies for inter-country adoption.
