Janet Solander sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole after 35 years

Janet Solander, the woman convicted of abusing her three adopted children, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years.

In March, jurors found Janet Solander guilty on all 46 charges which include child abuse, battery and sexual assault.

Authorities said the three little girls adopted by Solander and her husband, Dwight Solander, were abused by both of them.

Dwight and Janet’s biological daughter, Danielle Hinton took plea deals.  Dwight Solander was sentenced Tuesday to three to 10 years in prison. Danielle Hinton was sentenced to 18 months of probation.

During the trial, the children testified how they were beaten and tortured over bathroom use, food, and more. The sex crime against Janet Solander was related to her use of catheters on the girls against their will.

Also during the trial, workers from the Department of Family Services and Child Protective Services testified and talked about how they hadn’t reviewed case history and didn’t have access to information vital to keep the children safe. During the trial, the acting director at the Department of Family Services was demoted to assistant director.

The three girls are living with a couple who were their foster parents before the Solanders adopted them.
