UPDATE | Couple indicted after alleged sexual abuse of adopted daughters

A man from Elliott County arrested last month for allegedly holding two girls against their will has been indicted on several charges, including rape, sodomy and incest, Kentucky State Police say.

Ronald Stinespring, 48, of Sandy Hook, is charged with 10 counts of first-degree rape, 10 counts of first-degree sodomy, 10 counts of incest, one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 years old, 11 counts of first-degree abuse of a child under 12, one count of first-degree wanton endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, and one count of resisting arrest.

Stinespring is the adoptive father of the two victims.

Stinespring’s wife, Ty Stinespring, 45, of Cadiz, Ohio, also was arrested last month. She was indicted on two counts of first-degree complicity to commit criminal abuse.

KSP troopers say the incident was reported March 1 by a resident who said a girl showed up at his home, saying she had been held against her will at a remote location along Lytten Fork Road and managed to escape. They say she advised them of another girl who was being held at the same location.

Troopers had to forcibly enter the home to execute a search warrant. Ronald Stinespring was arrested after attempting to flee the residence.

Neighbors were left stunned and disturbed after learning what State Police say went on.

"I moved away from Louisville from the big city to come to the country where it's more peaceful and safer for the kids," neighbor Danielle Galeano said, "and then you hear stuff like that is moving in, and it just kind of turns your stomach."

Neighbors say the Stinesprings had moved to the area a couple years ago.

"It's not like they came out of the hollow daily or even weekly," Galeano said. "You very rarely saw them."

Several neighbors also said they didn't know there were children living with the couple.

"I kind of wish we'd known about it sooner," Galeano said. "We could've got them out of there sooner. I hope the best for the little girls involved. I hope they get all the help they need."

The Elliott County Cabinet for Health and Family Services was notified to help move the girls to a safe environment.

Ronald Stinespring is being held at the Rowan County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Ty Stinespring is at the same facility on a $15,000 cash-only bond.

KSP troopers say federal charges are possible in the case, and the FBI in Louisville is providing assistance to the victims.

The suspects are due in court for their arraignment May 13.

Kentucky State Police in Morehead received a call early Friday morning from a man claiming that a juvenile female had showed up at his residence.

After investigating, police determined the girl had been held at a remote location on Lytten Fork Road and left the residence in the middle of the night.

At the residence, a juvenile sibling of the girl was found along with an adult sibling. Their adopted father, Ronald Patrick Stinespring was also at the residence.

Several individuals, including Stinespring, were placed under arrest during the investigation.

Stinespring was charged with criminal abuse second degree, fleeing or evading police on foot first degree, resisting arrest, menacing, illegal taking or possessing of deer/wild turkey and possession of destructive.

Stinespring along with the other who were arrested were lodged at the Rowan County Detention Center.
