Charges have been laid after a child in adoptive care was assaulted and left with life-threatening injuries.
Manitoba RCMP say a 39-year-old La Salle man has been charged with aggravated assault and failing to provide necessities of life after an incident on May 25.
Police say the 10-week-old girl was taken to a Winnipeg hospital for treatment of injuries suffered from child abuse.
She was in the care of her adoptive parents when the abuse occurred. One of those parents is the one facing charges.
The condition of the child has stabilized, but police say the extent of long-term damage isn’t known. The child remains in the care of Child and Family Services.
The suspect has been released on a promise to appear in court on August 19. His name isn’t being released to protect the child’s identity.
