WOMAN CONVICTED OF ABUSING SON

public

A 38-year-old Pittsfield woman accused with her husband of scalding their 7-year-old son has been convicted of felony child abuse.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed a charge of causing mental harm to a child against Lisa Sangraw. Her attorney, Chris Froelich, said sentencing negotiations are ongoing.

According to a criminal complaint, Sangraw heard her son crying while her husband gave him a bath in February.

Sangraw told police she went into the bathroom and saw the boy submerged above his navel. Her husband, Raymond Sangraw, was holding the boy under his arms.

Raymond Sangraw lifted the child out and held him in a shower, Lisa Sangraw told police.

School officials later noticed the boy had lost weight and was acting oddly in class. A social worker learned the boy had been treated for burns at Children's Hospital in Milwaukee, where hospital workers found second-degree burns on the lower half of his body.

The boy appeared dehydrated, malnourished and septic, the complaint said.

Raymond Sangraw is due in court Dec. 4 on charges of child abuse and causing mental harm to a child.
