Williams couple to be sentenced Oct. 8

MOUNT VERNON — Larry and Carri Williams will face a judge Oct. 8 to be sentenced for the death of their adopted daughter, Hana, and assault of their adopted son.

A jury found the pair guilty Monday of first-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault of a child after a seven-week trial that prosecutor Rich Weyrich said was the longest he could recall in his 35 years in Skagit County.

Carri Williams also was found guilty of homicide by abuse in the case. The jury could not agree on whether to convict Larry Williams of that charge.

Each defendant faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and/or a $50,000 fine for each offense. Weyrich and deputy prosecutor Rosemary Kaholokula are recommending about 14 to 18 years for Larry Williams and about 27 to 37 years for Carri Williams. Larry Williams spent almost two years in jail while the case was pending and could get credit for serving that time.

Judge Susan Cook has final say on sentencing.

Larry and Carri Williams are being held in Skagit County Jail on $750,000 and $1.5 million bail, respectively.

The sentencing hearing, which is at 9:30 a.m. in Skagit County Superior Court, will be the first time the two are in the same room since the verdicts were read in their cases Monday.
