A Bothell man whose ex-wife served time in prison for killing their 2 ½ year old daughter remained in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center after he was shot.

On Friday morning, Douglas and Noreen Erlandson's grown son dialed 911 after finding his wounded father inside their Bothell-area home. A source familiar with the investigation says the 60-year-old man was shot in the head. The case is being investigated as an assault.

Everett police are investigating the case because the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office didn't have the staff to handle it. Everett police did not return calls on Saturday.

Noreen Erlandson, 58, walked out of the Snohomish County Jail last December after completing 12 years of her 40-year second-degree murder sentence. Her sentence was thrown out because of a state Supreme Court ruling in another case that said defendants cannot be convicted of second-degree murder if the death was the unintended result of an assault.
