Former Columbia County Commissioner Scott Dean reindicted on child molestation charges

A grand jury has reindicted a former Columbia County commissioner on child molestation charges.

Scott Dean faces two charges of molesting his adopted daughter. She is one of five children that Dean and his wife adopted in 2008 from Guatemala.

The investigation revealed information that led to a new indictment on the same charges, but adjusted dates and the nature of one of the charges, according to court documents released Thursday.

Dean pleaded not guilty to those charges in February.

Assistant District Attorney Parks White said Tuesday that he doesn’t expect Dean’s case to go to trial Monday, the sixth time it has been listed on Superior Court Judge James G. Blanchard’s trial calendar.

Dean is accused of exposing himself and inappropriately touching the girl.

The original indictment states the activity occurred between Sept. 1, 2008, and Sept. 11, 2010. The new indictment extends that time period to Oct. 11, 2010.

After his original indictment in February, Dean resigned from his position as District 4 commissioner serving Grovetown, Harlem and Appling.
