Sex abuse suspect turns himself in

A man accused of having sexual encounters with a now-10-year-old relative turned himself in at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department yesterday.

Jon Paul Reid, 40, of Barling, Ark., was being held at the Boone County Jail with bond set at $145,000 after turning himself in around 11 a.m. He is charged with first-degree statutory sodomy, first-degree statutory rape, endangering a child and incest.

A family member reported Reid to authorities in June, saying he had been having sex with the girl since spring 2008. Maj. Tom Reddin of the sheriff’s department declined to say where the girl was from, but the alleged incidents were reported to have occurred in the Sturgeon area, he said.

After several interviews, the sheriff’s department in July issued warrants for Reid, who was out of state.
