Lawyer: Teen In Officer's Sex Case Admits Lying
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Attorney Irven Box, Sgt. Maurice Martinez's lawyer, said Monday the 14-year-old boy who accused Martinez of engaging in sexual acts with a child has admitted he lied about it.
"He's saying it didn't happen. He's saying he's told several people that," Box said.
Box said the teen admitted to him and to Martinez's family members that he made up the story of the police officer asking him to perform sexual acts.
"He's trying to shout it out. He's trying to tell everybody it did not happen, but who's listening?" Jordan Martinez, Martinez's adopted son, said.
Martinez is a police 18-veteran of the Oklahoma City Police Department. Last year, Martinez was named Foster Parent of the Year.
The Department of Human Services said Martinez took care of about 60 children during the 10 years that he was a single foster parent.
DHS officials said Martinez was good at reuniting children with their biological families. They said they have not received any complaints or accusations of abuse against Martinez, until now.
Police said officers arrested Martinez after he was accused of engaging in sexual acts with a 14-year-old boy.
Martinez's family members claim this is not true. However, they said the damage has been done.
"His career is completely ruined. How does he go back to work after this?" Martinez's sister, Nicole Barkalow, said.
"It's tainted him forever. His picture has been in the paper three to four times already. It's been on the telecasts. His peers know he's been accused of this," Box said.
Officers said they are sticking to the case until the teenage boy comes forward and makes a statement disproving claims that he was asked by Martinez to perform sexual acts.
