Couple accused of 'looting' orphans' trust fund

A couple from Cranberry have been charged with depleting the trust funds of two children who became orphans when their father killed their mother and himself.

A 95-page affidavit filed today by the Allegheny County District Attorney's office accuses Daniel and Merily Pompa of improper transfers of hundreds of thousands of dollars from the funds of Dylan and Olivia Pompa, who were adopted by the Pompas.

The DA alleges the Pompas used the money to pay their own expenses as well as the children's, when, especially after the adoption, it was the duty of the Pompas to support the children.

The Pompas are also accused of using the funds to extensively renovate a condominium at Seven Springs resort.

The affidavit says the multi-million-dollar funds were subject to "systematic looting" that reduced them to $88,000 by last October.

Dylan and Olivia were orphaned in December 2003 when their father, Leslie Young, killed their mother, Lisa Young, and himself. The Youngs were successful business people in Florida and had established insurance policies for themselves and trust funds for their children.
