A pediatrician testified yesterday that he sensed "a significant emotional problem"when Mimi Rohrer called his office in 1975 and reported that her newly adopted son "hated her.""The problem was not with the child, but the mother . . . The reason I sent them to a psychiatrist was for her (Rohrer), not the child,"said Dr. Robert Barroway of Cherry Hill.Rohrer, 43, the wife of South Jersey banker and political leader William Rohrer, is accused of beating her 2-year-old son Billy to death in 1975......

...Recalling the call in which Mimi Rohrer said Billy hated her, Barroway said he had heard other mothers say the same thing before. "It was the tone of her voice - not what she said but the way she said it. There was something very special about her voice and demeanor on the phone that made me alarmed and concerned," he said. Barroway said he immediately called to make an appointment with a psychiatrist at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. "Never before or since in my 17 years of practice have I ever referred a 2 1/2- year-old child and his mother to a psychiatrist - never at that age.....
