Pair to resign as trustees as probe of fund continues in Butler County

public

A Cranberry chiropractor and his wife have voluntarily agreed to resign as trustees of a trust set up for two children left orphaned by a murder-suicide, according to a court order signed this week.

Common Pleas Judge Lawrence J. O'Toole signed an order that confirmed the resignations of Daniel and Merily Pompa from a trust that Allegheny County prosecutors say amounted to $1 million at one time. According to court records, investigators are examining whether the couple improperly drained the fund.

The couple agreed to file an inventory and account of their administration of the trust, according to the order. No charges have been filed.

The Pompas gained guardianship of the children -- now 13 -- after their father, Leslie John Young, fatally shot their mother, Lisa Young, and himself in their Florida home in 2003. Lisa Young was Merily Pompa's cousin.
