Parents charged with murdering their 6-year-old son
A Loganville couple has been charged with murdering their 6-year-old adopted son.
The boy died Monday, four days after being rushed to the hospital following a 911 call Christmas Eve.
Louis David Jones, 39, and Jami Lea Jones, 36, are being held without bond in the Walton County Jail.
On Christmas Eve, police received a 911 call from the Jones' home on Bay Creek Road about an "unresponsive" child, Bruce Wright, chief deputy with the Walton County Sheriff's Office told the AJC Tuesday.
Paramedics "suspected some type of foul play" and notified the Sheriff's Office, Wright said. There was evidence of "physical injuries," Wright said, declining to elaborate.
The boy was taken to Walton Regional Medical Center, then airlifted that night to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. His parents initally were charged with aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to a child. When the boy died Monday morning, the charges were upgraded to murder.
Five other children were living at the house. Walton County DFCS took custody of those children on Christmas Eve.
