IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - The trial for a former Iowa man accused of killing his infant son has been delayed.
Both defense attorneys and the prosecution in a joint motion on Thursday requesting the trial for Brian Dykstra be continued. Dykstra is formerly of Iowa City and now lives in South Carolina. He is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 20-month-old son, Isaac, in August 2005. Dykstra was charged in 2008.
The baby was found unconscious and having trouble breathing at Dykstra's home in Iowa City. The child died the next day at the hospital. Dykstra has waived his right to a speedy trial.
Thursday's joint motion lists more than 130 witnesses. According to the document, more time is needed because of the complexity of the case. A new trial date has yet to be set.
