MOSCOW (AP) — The Kremlin's children's rights office says an 8-year-old Russian boy adopted in the United States was flown by himself back to Moscow bearing a note saying his adoptive mother was returning him.

A spokeswoman for the children's rights ombudsman said Friday that Artem Savelyev showed up Thusday unaccompanied at Moscow's Domodedovo airport, carrying a letter from the woman saying the boy has severe psychological problems.

Anna Orlova identified the adoptive mother as Torry Hansen, from Shelbyville, Tennessee.

Orlova said the boy was adopted six months ago, and was traveling to Moscow on an expired U.S. visa.

He is now in a hospital for a medical check-up.

The note claims the orphanage he came from had lied about his condition.
