Robert G. "Bob" Seamans, 90, of Sewell died peacefully Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. Robert was born in Stockton, Calif., the son of the late Robert Ellsworth and Ida Esther Seamans (nee Howard).

Mr. Seamans joined the war effort during World War II working for the U.S. Navy on Mare Island, Calif. There he met his life-long companion and wife of 60 years, Helen M. Seamans (nee McCloskey). Mr. Seamans and his wife moved to Philadelphia, and later to New Jersey, where they raised their family of four daughters. Mr. Seamans was employed with the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 19 for 42 years. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida, where they began a landscaping business and enjoyed gardening and camping. Mr. Seamans and his wife returned to New Jersey in 1998 to be near his family.

Mr. Seamans had a love of camping and the outdoors. He was a founding member and first president of the So Jerners chapter of National Campers and Hikers Association of N.J. Mr. Seamans also enjoyed woodworking and building toys and furniture. He played "Santa Claus" for many community groups and schools. Mr. Seamans will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his kind and compassionate nature.

In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Seamans is survived by three loving daughters, Orinda Ward and her husband, Kenneth, of Upper Deerfield Township, Gayla Seamans-Grater of Blackwood, and

and her husband, Timothy, of Sewell. He leaves seven cherished grandchildren, John Egbert Jr., Janice Forgen, Deborah Sullivan, Robert Grater, Christopher Grater, James Carelli and Matthew Carelli; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter,

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Robert Seamans to: Holy Redeemer Hospice, 150 9th Ave. Runnemede, NJ 08078.
