La demanda fue presentada el jueves por el fiscal general del estado de Nueva York, Dennis Vacco, y en ella se alega que algunas personas interesadas en adoptar un nino pagaron a la agencia sumas de $10,000 y hasta de $30,000, sin conseguir su proposito.
Las familias "afrontan grandes tensiones emocionales y financieras en la busqueda de un nino para adoptar y son especialmente vulnerables" a abusos, dijo Vacco.
"Este es el peor de los timos", afirmo el fiscal general, al considerar que el caso "combina el dolor del desengano con la perdida de los dolares que ha costado tanto ganar".
"No podemos tolerar este tipo de abuso", agrego, al destacar que la agencia incluso prometia bebes procedentes de Paraguay, conociendo que ese pais prohibio las adopciones en septiembre de 1995.
La demanda responde a quejas presentadas por varias familias al Departamento de Servicios Sociales de Estados Unidos.
Vacco declaro que con la accion judicial espera cerrar definitivamente Today's Adoption Agency, y obligar a sus responsables, Patricia Zuvic, Denise Zuvic y Stanley Michelman a devolver los fondos cobrados a las parejas interesadas en adopciones.
