An act of love for Baby Kara

In returning Baby Kara to her Texas father, Donald and Christine Carr of Tampa have made a difficult but correct decision.

Recognizing that they faced a no-win legal situation, the Carrs tearfully turned the 2-month-old baby over for transportation back to Galveston. That is where she belongs.

The Carrs gained possession of Kara after her mother went against the baby's father's wishes and gave her up for adoption. How that could happen under Texas law, which clearly states a father's consent is required for adoption, remains to be seen.

William Jardina, meanwhile, is rejoicing in his newly acquired responsibilities as a single parent. He'll need all the support from family and friends that he can get and shouldn't hesitate to take advantage of it.

And the Carrs, who provided Kara with a safe and loving start in her young life, are to be applauded. Moved by the Baby Jessica experience, they showed the true meaning of love and compassion by deciding to let her go, rather than fight a prolonged legal battle that would have kept her fate uncertain.

Although it's little consolation at the moment and does nothing to ease their pain, the Carrs can go forward knowing they did the right thing by Kara.
