 Two years of waiting Ana pointless convinced, that along with three other women who also suffered the theft of her daughters, began a hunger strike for a week in front of the National Palace of Culture, during the first week of May 2008.

 "The PGN told us that girls were to appear. A week of being on strike, we were asked to desistiéramos, because nobody would listen. But then came to give us the sun, moon and stars and we met a all.

 Ana Escobar, 26, was the victim of stealing her daughter when the baby was only six months old.He spent two years waiting in vain to the authorities investigating the theft of his daughter, but when they realized the futility of waiting, was installed in protest along with three other mothers going through a similar situation.

On May 6 laid the strike after the authorities of the newly established National Council for Adoptions (CNA), the PGN and the deputy Gudy Rivera, president of the Commission for Children and Families, met with concerned and committed to reviewing the more than 2300 files on adoption that PGN has to be solved.

 That day, the Survivor Foundation called the raid the place where they had the baby, but when authorities arrived, the girl had disappeared.  The following Monday (13), something unexpected happened: Anna, who still does not explain what happened, he received a call from the PGN to report on the recovery of his daughter.

Ester meet one months to be living with Ana on June 13 next, after a court decided to give temporary custody of the girl. "We still do not know how to explain what I felt when I was given because she was going to be carried home Remar, although I do not know which one. Certainly the media pressure was a key factor in this story has almost ended in fiction, but despite that Ana has the highest conviction that Ester is its descendant, pending the results of DNA testing they did on May 17, through a private laboratory that took Q 5000.

  Anna is sure that Esther is her daughter. Do not hesitate even for a moment while less strongly describes the traits of the girl who did recognize it.. "Nothing has changed. He has a mole on his leg, his fingers are twisted by the hand and foot level," he warns.

Olga Lopez is another of those affected. She has not had the fortune of Anna, although identified as a baby (who will be subjected to DNA testing) of the files that had the PGN has found other pictures of girls in the files that match the age would have his daughter.

 Cases Review

  The National Council for Adoptions (CNA) takes 21 days to verify that files were in the process of international adoption in the PGN.  Of the 2300 records, only 690 have completed the verification. Of these, 22 had irregularities, and the infants were brought to court for children and adolescents.

 The CNA said, so far this year, 37 children taken into state, whose files were sent by the courts of children and adolescents.

Ester juega, muy dedicada, bajo la mesa con unas monedas y tarjetas de presentación que descubrió en un bolso. Al principio se mostraba muy inquieta, se trepaba en las piernas de Ana y bajaba una y otra vez.

"A la nena me la robaron el 26 de marzo de 2006, cuando apenas tenía seis meses. Ese mismo día hice la denuncia a la PNC, al MP y a la PGN, pero ellos me culparon del robo de la niña. Un mes después, me llamaron para hacerme una entrevista en un canal de televisión y me contactaron con la Fundación Sobrevivientes, pero yo no quería venir".

Ester se levanta y sus grandes ojos están atentos a la cámara y de nuevo sube sobre Ana. "Les tiene miedo (a las cámaras) desde el día en que me la entregaron. Quedó asustada porque había muchos periodistas ese día y todos nos acapararon".

Dos años de espera inútil convencieron a Ana, para que junto a otras tres mujeres que también sufrieron el robo de sus hijas, iniciara una huelga de hambre por una semana frente al Palacio Nacional de la Cultura, durante la primera semana de mayo de 2008.

"La PGN nos decía que las niñas iban a aparecer. A la semana de estar en huelga nos pidieron que desistiéramos, porque nadie nos iba a escuchar. Aunque después se acercaron para ofrecernos el sol, la luna y las estrellas y no nos cumplieron a todas".

"De verlo y no creerlo"

Ana Escobar, de 26 años, fue víctima del robo de su hija cuando la bebé tenía tan solo seis meses de nacida. Estuvo dos años aguardando en vano a que las autoridades investigaran el robo de su hija, pero cuando se percató de la inutilidad de la espera, se instaló en protesta junto a las otras tres madres que atravesaban una situación similar.

El 6 de mayo depusieron la huelga, luego que las autoridades del recién creado Consejo Nacional de Adopciones (CNA), la PGN y el diputado Gudy Rivera, presidente de la Comisión del Menor y la Familia, se reunieron con las afectadas y se comprometieron a revisar los más de 2,300 expedientes sobre adopción que la PGN tiene pendientes de resolver .

"Me citaron de la PGN para que llegara el 9 de mayo. Ese día estaban esperando encarar a las supuestas madres, los abogados y las cuidadoras de niños en proceso de adopción. Cuando vi a la cuidadora entrar con la niña tuve una impresión enorme y sin pensarlo les dije que ella era mi hija. Fue como si yo no estuviera allí, porque reaccioné como a los 10 minutos y después me fui muy agresiva hacia donde estaba la cuidadora, pero me detuvieron y ella se escapó con la nena".

Ese día la Fundación Sobrevivientes pidió el allanamiento del lugar donde tenían a la bebé, pero cuando las autoridades llegaron, la niña había desaparecido. El siguiente lunes (13), algo inesperado sucedió: Ana, quien aún no se explica lo ocurrido, recibió una llamada de la PGN que le informó sobre la recuperación de su hija.

Ester cumplirá un mes de estar viviendo con Ana el próximo 13 de junio, luego que un juzgado decidiera darle la custodia provisional de la niña. "Todavía no sé cómo explicar lo que sentí cuando me la dieron, porque ella iba a ser llevada a un hogar de Remar, aunque no sé a cuál. Es algo inesperado, como un milagro de verlo y no creerlo. Aunque al principio la nena estuvo muy agresiva conmigo, porque no dejaba que la tocara, me mordía. Todavía no se ha adaptado, nos está constando a las dos".

Indudablemente la presión mediática fue un factor fundamental para que esta historia posea casi un desenlace de ficción; sin embargo, y a pesar que Ana tiene la mayor convicción de que Ester es su descendiente, aún están pendientes los resultados de la prueba de ADN que le hicieron el 17 de mayo, a través de un laboratorio privado que cobró Q 5,000.

Ana tiene la certeza de que Ester es su hija. No titubea ni por un mínimo instante mientras describe con firmeza los rasgos de la niña que hicieron reconocerla. "No ha cambiado nada. Tiene un lunar en su pierna, tiene torcidos sus deditos de la mano y el pie plano", advierte.

"Si se requieren 20 pruebas de ADN, las vamos a pedir"

Olga López es otra de las afectadas. Ella no ha tenido la fortuna de Ana, pues pese a que identificó a una bebé (quien será sometida a la prueba de ADN) de los expedientes que tenía la PGN, ha encontrado otras fotografías en los expedientes de niñas que coinciden con la edad que tendría su hija.

Es probable que la impresión de saberse con una suerte distinta a la de Ana, hiciera que Olga eligiera inmediatamente uno de los expedientes, sin embargo, descubrió una nueva posibilidad, pero la infante del expediente fue dada en adopción en 2006.

En el documento consta que la bebé de nombre Cindy Colwell Thomas tenía pasaporte emitido en el municipio de Iztapa, del departamento de Escuintla. No obstante, esta municipalidad ha sido señalada por la emisión de gran cantidad de cédulas de vecindad falsas.

Norma Cruz, de Fundación Sobrevivientes, anima incondicionalmente a Olga, diciéndole que la niña era una de las más pequeñas cuando le fue robada (tenía un mes de nacida), por lo que el proceso de identificación se torna más complejo.

"El problema es para el Estado, pero en realidad es el culpable, pues no garantiza la seguridad de la población. (...) Así que si necesitamos 20 pruebas de ADN, las vamos a pedir", puntualizó Cruz.

Revisión de casos

El Consejo Nacional de Adopciones (CNA) lleva 21 días verificando expedientes que estaban en trámite de adopción internacional en la PGN. De los 2,300 archivos, únicamente 690 tienen concluida la verificación. De éstos, 22 presentaron irregularidades, por lo que los infantes fueron puestos a disposición de juzgados de la niñez y la adolescencia.

El CNA ha declarado, en lo que va del año, 37 niños y niñas en estado de adoptabilidad, cuyos expedientes fueron enviados por los juzgados de niñez y adolescencia.

Asimismo, tiene registradas unas 107 solicitudes de familias guatemaltecas que quieren adoptar.
