Police review abuse investigation

public

Police are reviewing an investigation into claims of sexual and physical abuse at a children's home after fresh allegations were made.

Hampshire police said it is making "initial inquiries" after a man made claims about the Children's Cottage Home which operated in Portsmouth.

A 10-month police investigation was closed in 2006 without any charges.

A police spokeswoman said there were no obvious links between their inquiry and the one under way in Jersey.

"We've had a claim from one of the original alleged victims in the case who made similar allegations again," she said.

A total of 21 men and women have previously told detectives they suffered physical and sexual abuse at the former children's home in Cosham, mostly in the 1950s.

The Crown Prosecution Service examined allegations against the centre but decided not to prosecute because 17 of the alleged abusers had died and there was insufficient evidence against the remaining three.
