A jury was dismissed today after failing to reach a verdict in the 13-week trial of a Mayor's wife accused of killing her 3 1/2-year-old adopted son by repeated physical abuse.

Judge David G. Eynon in Superior Court released the 12 jurors after they had said they could not reach a decision in the trial of 43-year-old Mimi Rohrer, the wife of Mayor William G. Rohrer Jr., 74, of Haddon Township.

She was accused of second-degree murder in the 1975 death of her son, William G. Rohrer 3d, who died three months after he and a girl had been adopted in El Salvador. Mrs. Rohrer has denied she caused the death.

The Medical Examiner had initially determined that the child died of ''severe contusions of the brain'' that were ''self-inflicted.'' Mrs. Rohrer said the boy had fallen from a highchair.
