AN ADOPTED CHILD IS FOUND IN A CAGE AND HIS PARENTS ARE ARRESTED.
A Missouri lawyer and his wife have been arrested on suspicion of child abuse for punishing their adopted 13-year-old son by keeping him inside a cagelike cubicle in the basement, police said. Howard Munson, 37, and his wife, Marjorie, 35, of St. Louis County, were arrested at their home Friday and released in their own recognizance. Officers went to the house after an anonymous caller notified the state Division of Family Services of the confinement, police said. The couple greeted police cordially at the front door of their home and led them to the crate, where the officers found their son, Alonzo, fully clothed but without shoes in a cold basement, police said. The couple have three other adopted children, ranging in age from 3 to 6. There was no evidence that the other children had been abused, police said. All the children were placed in the custody of juvenile authorities.
