Police accuse mother in missing girl case
The mother of 13-year-old Alexis Glover faked her daughter's disappearance and placed her body in a Virginia creek for authorities to find, police allege.
Police said this week Alfreedia Gregg-Glover, 44, allegedly attempted to make it appear her teenage daughter had run away by placing the girl's locator bracelet near a library in Manassas, Va., The Washington Post said Thursday.
After leaving the bracelet, which allows deputies to track its wearer, Gregg-Glover then began an emotional media effort to find her daughter, police alleged Wednesday.
Then on Jan. 7, according to police, Gregg-Glover took her daughter's body and placed it in an area creek for authorities to eventually locate.
The body, which was dumped beyond the initial search area, was found two days later by a man going for a walk.
Police said they are approaching the teenager's case as a potential homicide, but are not sure if Alexis was dead or alive when her mother placed her in the creek's frigid water.
The Post said while investigators await autopsy results, law enforcement officials said they are investigating abuse allegations.
