Newborn hospitalized after dog steps on her

A 23-day-old baby remained in critical condition Monday after the family dog stepped on her throat over the weekend, authorities said.

Alexis Keintz, 651 N. Cramer Ave. in Lombard, stopped breathing and was brought to Elmhurst Hospital at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, said Lombard fire officials. She then was transferred to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Police said the girl's father, Bruce Keintz, was watching both Alexis and her 1-year-old sibling when the older child fell.

Keintz, whose wife was at work, laid Alexis on the floor so he could attend to the 1-year-old.
