RICHMOND, Calif. -- Authorities said Tuesday that an 18-month-old Richmond baby boy died after being stabbed several times in the chest with a kitchen knife.
Contra Costa County Deputy Coroner Bill Brinks identified the young victim as Charles McEntire III.
Police discovered Charles' body around 10:20 a.m. Monday when they responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment located at 563 S. 30th St. in Richmond, according to Richmond Police Sgt. Enos Johnson.
Police found the baby in an upstairs apartment suffering from stab wounds that appear to have been inflicted with a kitchen knife, according to Brinks.
Medics tried to revive Charles without success, Johnson said.
There were three adults in the apartment at the time of the incident. Two of the adults, a man and his wife, were the deceased baby's legal guardians. The third adult, a 19-year-old man, is the woman's biological son, according to Johnson.
All three were taken to the Richmond Police Department for interviews.
The male guardian, identified as 57-year-old Richmond man Charles Thomas McEntire, was taken into custody and was currently at the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez, according to Johnson.
Investigators have 48 hours to file charges against McEntire, and will likely do so on Tuesday, Johnson said.
