Abstract (Document Summary) | ||
Previously, Canadians went to Romania and often chose from children in state-run orphanages or Romanian families, officials involved with the process said. Thousands of Romanian babies have been adopted in North America and Europe since the December, 1989, revolution that ousted dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Romanian embassy official Vlad Diaconescu said the Romanian government's law last summer was in part a response to "a black market in babies." Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
