Illien is another agency to be avoided. The people who run the agency are
very charismatic and it is easy to be drawn in. Over the past 20 years they
have moved from state to state has complaints have piled up. They have worked
with very dubious sources in India and have engaged in practices that are
simply unacceptable. I have firsthand knowledge of a situation where a family,
after learning that their "healthy child" was in fact handicapped, were
coerced into immigrating the child anyway since the child had its visa. Then
the
agency would supposedly take custody of the child and find it another
family. In addition to being completely ILLEGAL, this would have exposed the
family to the possibility that Illien would have done nothing and that they
would
then be forced to parent a child that they did not feel they could handle.
This is only one such story; there are many more.

With all the great agencies out there, IFI and Illien should be seen as at
the bottom of the barrel. People have done successful adoptions with them,
but the complaints and abuses are too frequent over a very long period of time
to make them worth recommending.
