AWOP is not the only organization in Ethiopia that is placing children(mostly older) that have been pre-identified through a licensed agency. Youth with a Mission (YWAM) in cojunction with "Adoption Ministries"has an identical program to AWOP's Program. They maintain a list ofwaiting children who are available for adoption for various reasons, and many have living family members.

YWAM uses CHI as well to facilitate the adoptions of the children thatthey have in their programs. They are an NGO much like AWOP, have someof their own care centers,  gather information on the children andthen look for families for them. I have spoken with Joy, their director several times about theirprogram and what they are doing in Ethiopia. Much like AWOP, they workto find resources for families and children in Ethiopia first. Thenthey will look for families for children where adoption is the onlyoption. They provide perspective families with information includingpictures on available children. A couple of weeks ago they had somepretty young children waiting for families when I asked. Not sure if these are the only two programs like this or not. I knowAAI keeps a list of older children that they are looking to place andmany of them are not at Layla House (their care center) but in statefacilities. Does anyone with AAI know if all those children are paper ready andlegally free for adoption? Have they had issues with families "losingreferrals" in the past in their Ethiopian program? I am not toopleased with AAI since we left their Thailand program because we lostTWO referrals in a couple of months. That was ridiculous. Does anyone know what people are saying about YWAM?? How is theirprogram running? Are there families out there that have lost referralsthrough them too because of birth parents and paperwork issues? Arethey facing the same scrutiny that AWOP is about their waitingchildren and is their ethics being questioned because of the type ofprogram they run? I can not find any YWAM families to ask and I wantto see if it is the programs or something else causing issues withpeople.DianeDiane
