Portuguese adopt more foreign children
More and more candidates want the children of other countries. 50 were taken in the last seven years
The newspaper, which cites data from the Directorate General of Social Security, says that in the last seven years, 50 foreign children were welcomed in Portugal. Only last year were 12, while in 2000 they were only two, which shows a clear increase.
The data show that the majority of foreign children adopted by African countries are of Portuguese or Portuguese-speaking. Portuguese children are usually adopted by Europeans.
According to JN, of all children referred for international adoption, there is record of only two cases of failure, at that age (over ten years) may help explain the difficulties of integration in family and social context of their very different experience of life.
Along with the increase in the number of foreign children adopted in Portugal, there is a growing openness of the Portuguese candidate to children from other sources.
There are fewer foreigners trying to Portuguese children
According to the newspaper, there are fewer foreigners interested in Portuguese children. There were 40 in 2000 and only 10 in December last year. Also the number of adopted Portugese fell. There were seven in 2007, but in 2000 was 12.

O jornal, que cita dados da Direcção-Geral da Segurança Social, adianta que nos últimos sete anos, 50 crianças estrangeiras foram acolhidas em Portugal. Só no ano passado, foram 12, enquanto em 2000 tinham sido apenas duas, o que mostra um claro aumento.
Os dados mostram que a maioria das crianças estrangeiras adoptadas por portugueses são de países africanos ou de expressão portuguesa. Já as crianças portuguesas são geralmente adoptadas por europeus.
Segundo o JN, de todas as crianças encaminhadas para a adopção internacional, há registo de apenas dois casos de insucesso, em que a idade (mais de dez anos) pode ajudar a explicar as dificuldades de integração num contexto familiar e social muito diverso da sua experiência de vida.
A par do aumento do número de crianças estrangeiras adoptadas em Portugal, verifica-se uma abertura crescente dos candidatos portugueses a crianças de outras proveniências.

A adopção internacional é uma hipótese que apenas se coloca quando se esgotam as possibilidades de colocar a criança numa família portuguesa, por isso, as crianças são normalmente mais velhas e muitas vezes sofrem de problemas de saúde. Segundo o JN, embora as famílias estrangeiras sejam mais receptivas a crianças mais velhas e portadoras de patologias, a verdade é que preferem claramente as que são saudáveis e com idades até aos dois ou quatro anos
