East Timor orphanage

There's been another frightening night of violence in Dili, East Timor.

As we've heard this morning, details are being finalised for the arrival of Australian troops in the next day or so.

Convents and churches in and around Dili are packed with thousands of Timorese seeking refuge from the violence.

At Fundasaun Hadomi Oan, an orphanage in Dili, Australian Lala Noronha is sheltering 30 children and one staff member. The other staff have fled in fear
of their lives.

Many of the children lost their parents and other family members in the 1999 violence.
