Court reserves orders on Anita Sen's remand

The ninth metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday reserved orders till Thursday on the plea of the Crime Investigation Department for 15-day police remand for Anita Sen, a key accused in the child adoption case.

The magistrate heard arguments and reserved his orders. The counter-affidavit was also filed before the court by Anita Sen in regard to nine charges made against her by the CID.

The 53-year-old Anita Sen, wife of Additional Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen and director of Precious Moments adoption home, had surrendered in the city criminal court last Saturday, after three weeks on the run.

The metropolitan magistrate had remanded her to judicial custody till May 30. Later, the CID moved an application seeking police remand of the accused for 15 days for further investigation.

The CID wanted to verify, in the presence of the accused, all the documents seized from Precious Moments -- an unrecognised adoption home -- including the signatures of biological parents on the "relinquishment" affidavits of the infants lodged in the home.

Further, the CID proposed to take the accused to the Lambada tandas (tribal hamlets) from where the infants and children were reportedly picked up by Precious Moments.
