Terrible
Words cannot describe what a nightmare they have been. Very non communicative, and lots of mis-communication. Their left hand does not know what their right hand is doing. They kept telling me to wait, wait , wait.. for a Vietnamese referral. 15 months later and no referral. Now I am borderline too old to continue with another agency. I am starting litigation to get my money back. Please don't trust these people.
NOT GOOD
Commonwealth Adoptions is terrible. We would not recommend Commonwealth to out friends and even not to enemies. They were unprofessional and in my opinion overpriced given their lack of knowledge and services. They rarely seemed to know what was going on in our adoption and always had excuses. This agency has been unable to accomplish anything for us in a timely organized manner. This agency is self-serving, dishonest and disorganized. Our case manager's response to my inquiries on several occasions was simply "You have to trust us on this!"
They were wonderful before they got our money. They are appearing to be in this more for the money. They say they are non for profit but profit does not factor in director’s salary that she takes before they consider what profit is.
Stay away from Commonwealth unless you have a lot of time to waste and money to throw away. Please look elsewhere!

Anita
what country were you adopting from? I too had an awful experience with them.

I WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN
They are terrible when it comes to communication and taking care of there customers. They drop the ball on way too many things. My adoption never occurred and at this time it will not happen with them.. My caseworker was horrible and did not even contact me upon my return home without a child. I would never use them again.
Excellent
We used Commonwealth and were 100% satisfied. We were always well-informed throughout the process. We were assisted through all of the paperwork. Our in-country contacts via Commonwealth were exceptional. If we choose to adopt again, we will use Commonwealth without hesitation.

We ended up completing the adoption of our daughter, the joy of our life, but Commonwealth dropped the ball too many times with money, communication, and immportant information. We would absolutely not use them again.

Very friendly and helpful agency
My husband and I ended up using a different agency simply because the child we fell in love with in the end was from a country that Commonwealth did not have a program for. However, before we chose a county, Commonwealth was in our top 3 choices. They were always extremely helpful and kind and never pushed us to choose them. If we adopt again, they would definetly be worth checking back with.
Agency?
Can I ask what Agency you DID end up going with?? It appears my husband and I are in the same situation. We are quite impressed with Commonwealth, however they do offer adoptions to the country we are considering...
Agency?
I MEANT to say that "we are quite impressed with Commonwealth, however, they do NOT offer adoptions to the country we are considering..."
Well worth the money
We are in the middle of a Colombian adoption. Commonwealth has been great. Our caseworker, Beth, however, is to die for. We absolutely adore her. She always responds to emails and phone messages. She calls just to see how we're doing. She never pressures us to move faster or slower, to take a referral, or to make decisions we are not comfortable with. The adoption education is very good and flexible. And Beth has given us loads of excellent resources to wade through.
I recently went through another miscarriage and Beth was so kind as to call and see how my doctor appointment went and to see how I was feeling--no ulterior motive. This act along with the customer service we've received confirms that our decision to use Commonwealth was a correct one.
This is not to say that everything has been completely smooth. We lost a referral early on and we waited longer than expected for the information we were promised on our new referral. Everyone is human and no person or agency is perfect...communications get crossed, holidays and vacations happen, and people simply forget sometimes. It is difficult for us adoptive parents out there to "hold our horses" as they say, but we must or we'll simply go crazy. Our experience with Commonwealth has been very positive.
Judy, Please email me
Judy,
Please email me offline, I am interested to hear how you intend to persue litigation.
