Good News: Groundbreaking Conference Focuses on Embryo Adoption
An estimated 400,000 embryos remain frozen in the U.S.
Marti Bailey and her husband are the proud parents of twins — a boy and a girl — thanks to embryo adoption.
Embryo adoption will be the focus of a first-of-its kind conference next month in Washington, D.C.
Medical experts, attorneys and public policy representatives also will discuss qualifications for parents offering embryos for adoption.
“These donors are screened initially and, ideally, re-screened for sexually transmitted diseases and any infectious diseases that could impact the adopting couple," said Dr. Jeffrey Keenan, director of the National Embryo Donation Center.
Jen and Todd of Arizona have just begun the screening process to adopt a frozen embryo.
“We‘re both very passionately pro-life," Jen said. "One thing that was really heavy on our hearts was just how many embryos are frozen.”
