U.S. Embassy Funds Survey of Children in Need
The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia is pleased to announce a grant of $58,000 to Holt International to undertake a nationwide survey of "children in need." Holt will work with Cambodian government agencies and social welfare NGOs on the survey aimed at improving social welfare and the child permanency planning system for orphaned and institutionalized children.
This project will develop a census of orphaned and institutionalized children living in government and private institutions throughout the country. The goal of the census will be to:
- Established a baseline of the number and demographics of Cambodian children in care, including those who require permanent family placement;
- Develop an understanding of how and why children come into care;
- Determine how long children stay in care and geographic or regional variables in child care practices.
