FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Richard Gitelman, accused of peddling babies on the black market and offering to sell an 8-day-old boy for $10,000, says his adoption service finds unwanted infants for childless couples. Florida officials have asked for an injunction to put Gitelman's Adoption Counseling Service out of business, and Circuit Court Judge Larry Korda is expected to rule on the request within two weeks. The state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services claims Gitelman is a baby broker and operates a referral business for profit -both illegal under state law. Documents filed in Broward County court charge Gitelman once offered to sell an 8-day-old boy for $10,000, that he dealt with pregnant girls as young as 13, and that he deceived prospective parents about the backgrounds of the infants' parents.
