Investigator Says Russian Child's Body Covered in Bruises

UPDATE 12:11 PM - Ector County Medical Examiner's Office says the body of Max Shatto was covered in bruises.

Chief Investigator Shirley Standefer tells CBS 7, "Because its a child, red flags go up automatically. The child was brought in unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the hospital. He had bruising over a lot of his body."

Investigators say cause of death cannot be determined until autopsy results are returned. Max Shatto's body was sent to Tarrant County for autopsy on January 22, 2013.

Sergeant Gary Duesler tells CBS 7 that no calls had been received about Max Shatto before his admittance to the hospital. He says, "I have not heard of any calls or reports of neglect before this happened."

Ector County - On January 21, 2013, the Ector County Sheriff's Office was called to the emergency room at Medical Center Hospital in regards to a 3-year-old boy that was brought in from an address in the 16,000 block of Waldrop in Gardendale.

The child, Max Alan Shatto who was adopted from Russia, died at the hospital and the body was sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy.

The results of that autopsy are still pending and no arrest has been made at this time.

The Ector County Sheriff's Office is working with Child Protective Services and Dr. Sergey Chumarev, the Senior Counselor for the Embassy of the Federation out of Washington D.C.

The Sheriff has also been in contact with U.S. Senator Landrieu.

Sheriff’s Investigators have also been in contact with Mr. Kupriana, who is the head of International Corporation from Russia.

The investigation is ongoing.
