Roseville Woman Who Stabbed Daughters Sentenced

public

A Minnesota woman who admitted stabbing her two 11-year-old daughters in an attempt to kill them was sentenced to more than 16 years in prison.

Sylvia Lynn Sieferman, 61, attacked her two daughters - Linnea and Hannah Sieferman - at their Roseville home in August of 2008. In May, she pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree attempted murder.

When Sieferman entered her plea, she told the court she planned to kill the girls because she feared they would be placed in foster care and raised by strangers.

According to the criminal complaint, Hannah told investigators she saw her mother enter Linnea's bedroom with a pillow, a knife and an ax. Sieferman then stabbed Linnea multiple times with the knife as Hannah watched.

Hannah told investigators she ran, but her mother followed her and confronted her with the ax. Sieferman allegedly struck Hannah at least five times with the ax.

Both girls, who had been adopted by Sieferman as toddlers, survived the incident.

Sieferman's sentence of 16 years and 8 months was agreed to as part of the plea
