Autopsy reveals murdered girl's abuse and neglect

SAN ANTONIO -- A Medical Examiner's report show a murdered 3-year-old lived a short, painful life.

A report released last week states 3-year-old Melody Velasquez died after being brutally hit in the head. Police say the same sex couple who adopted Melody, Norberto Velasquez and his partner Matthew Aranda, are responsible for her death.

A more detailed autopsy report released Wednesday reveals that Melody had a history of injuries. The report states Melody had "multiple contusions, scratches and abrasions on her arms, legs and face..." several healed "rib fractures..." and was extremely "thin for her age." They were injuries that six medical examiners concluded were "non-accidental."

That conclusion contradicts the original claim made by Velasquez and Aranda that Melody fell down some stairs.

Both men were arrested arrested last week. Aranda has been charged with capital murder and could face the death penalty. Velasquez has been charged with injury to a child.
